Claire Tan received her B.M. Piano Performance degree from James Madison University where she graduated in the Spring of 2019 as top of her class in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (Summa cum Laude). Throughout her high school and undergraduate years, she performed in various state, local, and international music competitions, as well as at various JMU special functions for prospective students. In addition to solo performance, she has also performed extensively as an accompanist for school ensembles, community groups, and vocal and instrumental soloists, including the 2nd place winner of the 2017 VMTA Young Artist Woodwinds competition. For several years, she has been teaching private piano lessons to elementary students throughout various regions, from Northern Virginia to the Shenandoah Valley and beyond. During the 2018-2019 school year, she served as Vice President for her school’s chapter of MTNA (Music Teachers’ National Association), during which time she assisted with organizing the 2019 MTNA Collegiate Chapters Piano Pedagogy Symposium, hosted at JMU. Outside of performance, she spends her time volunteering with local community music workshops and children’s festivals, playing the piano for churches and retirement homes, and lovingly caring for toddlers and children.
