JAZZ IN THE CLASSICAL PIANO STUDIO

Jazz in the Classical Piano Studio:" This presentation will explore a

variety of ways in which jazz can be a useful tool for the classical

piano teacher to help students increase in their skill while piquing

their interest. Beginning with an easy to understand explanation of

basic jazz theory, the presentation will present techniques for

memorization, student motivation, and fun methods for

incorporating improvisation and composition into piano

lessons. Presenter David Berry currently serves as Assistant

Professor of Music at Eastern Mennonite University, where he

maintains a full studio of piano students and teaches a variety of

music history courses.
