Sunday, Oct. 3 Music of Brazil
The Center at Belvedere - 540 Belvedere Blvd
2:45pm Social Time
3:00pm Program By Dr. Paulo Steinburg and friends
Brazilian music is often associated with samba and bossa-nova, however the music of Brazil is marked by an often nostalgic feel that adds much more depth to it, no matter the genre or style. Dr. Paulo Steinberg, pianist and JMU faculty member, will discuss a few elements that make the music of his native country so rich and contagious. The lecture will be illustrated by pieces written for piano solo, and a few examples from both the vocal and violin repertoires, including composers such as Villa-Lobos, Nazareth, Abreu, Tupynambá, and more.
