New Group - Mosaic Children's Choir

Vacancy Announcement - Minister of Music

St. James is a growing, country parish established in 1881 in the heart of the town of Louisa. The 10:00 A.M. Sunday service is lead musically by our minister of music and a small ensemble choir. St. James is seeking a quarter-time minister of music to work alongside and under the supervision of the Rector, beginning in September of 2015.

Position Description:

GOAL: Working alongside the rector, staff, and laity of the church, the minister of music is called to nourish and strengthen the faith of our members through the sharing and cultivation of praise to God through music.

OBJECTIVES: (more details will be shared upon request and prior to the interview)

1.      Provide music to enhance the worship of St. James and prepare volunteers and resources to support the weekly topics of prayer and scriptural study.

2.      Explore musical outlets to incorporate in worship and empower lay leadership to share their talents with the congregation.

3.      Provide leadership and an encouraging presence for the members of the church at services and during a weekly choir rehearsal.

OUR INSTRUMENTS:

Our organ was installed in 1995 having been designed, built, and installed by Grooms & Payne, Llt. The organ consists of seven ranks, 31 stops, and 451 pipes with circuits for two additional ranks.  We also have a baby grand piano and members of the church who love to accompany and share their musical gifts with the parish on violin, cello, guitar, etc.

COMPENSATION:

This is a quarter-time position with a salary commensurate with experience, education and the salaries for similar positions in other churches in our area and AGO guidelines ($13000-15500). A travel stipend is available as well as continuing education credit, vacation time off, and maternity leave. An added benefit at St. James Episcopal Church is the opportunity for the Minister of Music to use our facilities and instruments for the purpose of private music instruction.

2015 Young Artist Concerto Competition

The Liberty University School of Music is pleased to announce the 2015 Young Artist Concerto Competition.  This competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists 12 to 18 years of age (non-college students).  The competition will be held on the campus of Liberty University in Towns Alumni Auditorium on Saturday, December 12, 2015 beginning at 9:00am

The winner of this competition will have the opportunity to perform with the Liberty University Symphony Orchestra (LUSO) during the Spring 2016 concert series.  This winner’s concert is scheduled for Saturday evening, February 6th, at 7:00pm.  In addition to this performance opportunity, the winner will also receive a prize of $1,000.  Second and third place prizes will also be awarded.  Musicians from Virginia and surrounding states are encouraged to apply.

Music Feeds US - April 22-24, 2015

Music Feeds Us events next week! This little project which started four years ago as just a nice idea has, behind the scenes, become in a way a small grass-roots operation. The effort that has gone into Music Feeds Us over the years, and especially this year, is monumental, and all for the sake of a simple idea: Music has the power to change lives. 

Classical music should be available for everyone, and so should food, which is why our concerts are FREE; and those who can and feel inspired are encouraged to make a contribution to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
